Caring for Caron
In May 2023, Caron Treatment Center honored EnerSys® with their 2023 Partner in Recovery Award for generous and ongoing financial support of Caron’s mission as well as invaluable volunteer leadership.
As a nationally recognized nonprofit, Caron Treatment Center has helped thousands of individuals struggling with substance use disorder and their families begin to manage this chronic, treatable disease for over 65 years. Headquartered in Berks County, Pennsylvania, the organization served more than 850 Berks County families and provided more than $7.3 million in financial assistance for treatment services in 2022.
EnerSys has been partnering with Caron for over two decades. In addition to financial support, EnerSys leadership is extremely involved with Caron’s mission and initiatives. EnerSys CFO, Andi Funk, has served as a Trustee at Caron since 2017. She currently sits on the HR Committee and ad-hoc CEO Search and Finance Committees at Caron, and has held a variety of other roles including on the HR and Marketing Committees.
EnerSys President and CEO, David M. Shaffer, said “No one is immune from the terrible impacts of this disease. EnerSys is proud to be an ongoing partner with Caron to help those struggling with addiction and their families. It’s an honor to receive the award from Caron on behalf of EnerSys, but the real honor is the opportunity to lead a company that cares about the people in the communities in which we operate. At EnerSys, we’ve built a culture where we strive to do good in every way we can.”

Nearly 1,000 individuals in Berks County received inpatient and outpatient treatment services by Caron this past year – many of whom would not have been able to afford treatment without scholarship. Caron is also committed to a robust education and prevention effort that impacts over 100,000 students and young people annually.
David Rotenberg, Chief Clinical Officer for Caron Treatment Centers said, “EnerSys and its support of Caron and our gala once again illustrated the spirit of giving in Berks County. Their leadership in sponsoring our gala allowed us to have an incredible night of philanthropy, which, in turn, will allow us to treat more people and give away more financial aid to help those in need of our care. Especially people from Berks County. A huge shout out to EnerSys for their generosity of spirit. They led with heart and caring, exactly like Dick and Catherine Caron 70 years ago.”
