EnerSys makes supply chain GHG reduction commitment with FRET 21
According to the European Union, transport is the leading source of greenhouse gas emissions in France, accounting for 30% of GHG emissions in the country. The transport of goods via trucks, utility vehicles and more account for a large portion of this total, with freight transportation making up 12% of the total GHG emissions in the country.
A groundbreaking French initiative called FRET 21 is working to encourage companies to better integrate the impact of transport into their sustainable development strategy. The initiative is voluntary, but so far, over 300 companies have signed a pledge to reduce transport emissions. EnerSys is one of these companies, committing to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of its French operations by 12.5% by 2025 with a 2022 baseline.
Spearheaded by Aurelien Soret, EMEA Supply Chain Director, Pierre Copin, Global Operation Finance Director, and Cyrille Sobanski, Plant Manager for Arras, EnerSys will work to reach its commitment through a variety of cost-neutral initiatives, including load efficiency optimization, utilization of sailing routes over land routes, utilization of renewable energy alternative technologies, reducing packaging materials, and more.
“We are very proud of this initiative, we’re not only helping build a better France, but a better world,” said Aurelien. “With lessons learned from FRET 21 in France, we hope to bring best practices to EnerSys shipping routes in other countries as well.”
