Achieving Greater Energy Autonomy at Data Centre Sites
The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that data centres and their supporting transmission networks consumed over 200 Terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity in 2020 and that the annual figure will reach 250 TWh in 2022. When combined, this means data centre operations continue to represent approximately 1% of global electricity usage. With many leading data centre operators trying to attain carbon neutrality, they need to explore more sustainable ways of keeping up with their ever-increasing energy demands.
