Richmond, Kentucky Plant Awarded for Community Impact
EnerSys receives Industry of The Year Award for the second consecutive year.
At EnerSys, being an active member of the communities in which we work and live is at the core of our culture. We are proud to support communities in our areas of operation and around the globe. Our Richmond, Kentucky USA facility was again recognized for its commitment to community by the Richmond Chamber of Commerce with the 2023 Industry of The Year Award. The award recognizes industrial businesses that demonstrate ongoing business growth and a positive impact on the Madison County, Kentucky community.
The award was presented on November 2, 2023, during the 39th Annual Richmond Chamber Awards Banquet held at the Keene Johnson Building on the Eastern Kentucky University campus. This is the second year in a row EnerSys Richmond has been recognized for its impact on the community. Beyond this local impact, our Richmond site was also recognized at the federal level this year. In April, the Richmond facility received the Better Practice Award from the Better Plants Program, a U.S. Department of Energy Initiative for the implementation of the EnerSys Operating System (EOS), a Lean Management initiative, which promotes a culture of employee-led progress and contributions to more efficient operations.
Richmond’s success at the local and national level is rooted in its greatest strength, its people. The EnerSys manufacturing campus in Richmond, Kentucky employs over 500 people. Micah Meeker, Richmond Battery Plant Manager, emphasized, “our employees and staff are our success. There is a big sense of community at the plant and our people are an active part of the greater community.”
EnerSys is a growing presence in the Richmond community and has contributed to local efforts centered around natural disaster relief, addressing food insecurity, and supporting local organizations like the Salvation Army, Baptist Health Hospital, and various local youth organizations. “We have been part of the community since 1977,” Micah adds, “and we are honored to receive this acknowledgement from the community for what we have accomplished.”
EnerSys is committed to being an engaged and responsible corporate citizen wherever we do business and beyond. The accomplishments at our Richmond location emphasize this commitment. “Partnering with the communities we operate in is a part of the vision of each EnerSys facility,” said Troy Baxter, Director of Manufacturing Operations. “With this mindset we can develop ‘win-win’ scenarios that benefit both EnerSys and society at large. As EnerSys grows and improves so does the Richmond community!”
